views vs. hits

what is the difference between Hits vs. Visits? If an htm page has 445 hits and 239 visits, how many views did the page get?

please advise, thanks

Here are a couple links to some documentation that might do a better job of explaining these terms better than I can. We're actually using the Webalizer package that these docs reference to process our reports:

In web stats speak, a Hit happens every time a file is accessed by a browser, whereas a Visit refers to an actual person coming to your site. So, in your example, you had 262 people come to your site, some of whom viewed that page more than once to bring the total number of views up to 445.
